Head Sparkle FAQ
LAUREN WOOLF – Our very first franchisee
1. How does the job fit around family life and/or work as a performer?
It’s great being your own boss! I have the flexibility to organise my own schedule and manage my day in a way that works for me. Organisation is key!
2. What is the best thing about being a Sparkles Business Owner?
Enhancing the lives of children through the Lucy Sparkles & Friends classes and parties is an incredible feeling. I also take great pleasure introducing the Lucy Sparkles & Friends training to my new recruits and watching them grow as teachers; it is very rewarding.
3. Which areas of training and support do you value most?
I find the monthly catch ups and general day to day chat online and WhatsApp very beneficial. I don’t ever feel on my own; we are very much part of a team. We face the same opportunities and challenges, it is great to be able to share experience and support.
4. What are the downsides to the job?
We attract fantastically talented practitioners to work alongside us but that comes with a certain element of unpredictability. Many have other performance commitments and auditions which need to be accounted for, meaning I have to be flexible to deal with last minute reorganisation. In addition, working in the entertainment industry can be extremely challenging during unpredictable world events, such as the recent pandemic… but we were one of the first companies to pivot to on-line learning and keep parents company with their little ones at home.
5. Any highlights?
I love watching both the children and the teachers grow. Whether it’s a teacher who has the most amazing singing voice but has never played an instrument in their life – suddenly sitting in front of a class, holding the kids’ attention with their strong ukulele playing. Or a child who finally, after weeks of dance classes, learns how to skip… or even the baby who learns when it’s time to wave in the hello song. It is pure happiness!
